Ethereum's transparency runs deeper than Bitcoin's. Beyond simple transfers, every DeFi interaction, token swap, NFT trade, and smart-contract call tied to your address is permanently visible — and increasingly, analytics tools can link these on-chain activities to real identities through exchange KYC data, ENS names, or behavioral clustering. Converting ETH holdings to Monero (XMR) is the most direct way to stop that trail from growing.

Why Ethereum specifically is harder to keep private

A single active Ethereum address can accumulate a detailed activity graph over time: which DEXs you use, which tokens you hold, which NFT collections you've traded, even which DAOs you're a member of. Each interaction adds another data point an outside observer can use to build a profile — far more revealing than a simple balance history. If you're swapping from a smart-contract wallet (multisig, account abstraction wallet, etc.) rather than a standard externally-owned account, double-check that the platform's deposit flow supports contract-originated transactions — some swap platforms flag or delay these for additional verification since they can't assume a single private key controls the funds.
